2nd Annual Six Word Contest Winners

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 14, 2009, 5:03 AM
I'm 20 guys...

So My birthday was on the 6th, and it was my 20th. I'm really not a kid anymore, not even a teenager. I was actually kind of sad about this, and wasn't really excited for my birthday to come, and I know it's silly, because you're whatever age you believe you are, but I feel like social standards play such a role (too big of a role) in the way we act and live our lives. So I had a rebellious week. Rebellious against adulthood. I rode my bike, I walked around town wearing a pirate hat along with another pirate, I climbed trees, I listened to loud music, I went to late movies, and ate a lot of candy which we snuck into the movie, and did many other things that are more connected to kids because I am one. Tonight I'm going to see Harry Potter and midnight, AND I plan on dressing up as a member of Hufflepuff. I dare you to look at me like I'm too old to be doing this :steaming: I will probably just run away :sprint: giggling like a little kid.

Current Blog

Note: My blog is not working properly right now, but this is the blog that's coming.
My current blog is about the downs and ups of life. It's a little bit of a different approach than we're used to. I think it's a little more accurate as well. Check it out! Here's a short excerpt.
Pennsylvania and Delaware are very hilly places around where I live, so I am very used to climb and cruising, and then one day about 15 miles into my 20 mile ride I though of something. This is sort of like life. We often hear about the ups and downs of life, but in biking it's the downs and ups of life. You often see that hill in front of you, though sometimes it's around a corner and you couldn't see it. Regardless, you get to the hill, your speed slows down, you lose all the momentum you had, and you start climbing...

Artistic Update

I have spent a lot of time making my new website. It is almost complete. I just need to figure out how to make one last thing work and then it will be live. It is made completely in flash. You can get a taste of what it'll look like by looking at my blog, which isn't in flash yet, and may never be because I'm working with Blogger. We will see. I have also been doing more music stuff, and surprising to me, mainly guitar. It is surprising to me because it is the instrument I am the least proficient on. So that's going well. I have 3 or 4 songs right now. None of the ones I've written have words, but hopefully that'll change soon. I have also been dabbling with video a little bit. nothing too serious yet. I'll draw something soon and maybe dev it. We'll see. I just love being artful!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince comes out tonight!

The Winners

It had quite a tough time judging this time for many reasons. First reason being the entire time the contest has been going on I've been working almost endlessly on giving my personal website a major facelift. Second reason, the contest ended just my birthday, and I did something for my birthday everyday that week, which was a great way to spend my 20th, but not so great for judging contest entries, so yes blame me for the long turnaround time. Sorry! :(.

But I will not waste your time anymore(well I can't since =mode-de-vie already posted the news article but here is a short version of what is in it. The good part...THE WINNERS!

First Place
by ~MPMG

Second Place
by ~Araic

Third Place
by ~SacredThoughts

I had a fun judging the contest entries and seeing all of the great ideas you guys had, but I was most struck by the politeness I found. We always place a lot of focus on all of the bashing that goes on around here, and now granted, I was the person judging the pieces, but people left some very nice comments in their notes that accompanied their submission, and I just wanted to say thank you very much to all of you! Can't wait til next year!

Current Blog

My current blog is about being an advocate/activist. Just because the election is over doesn't mean we calm down and cool off. There are still plenty of things to be angry about. This blog is not about what to be angry about, but a little about what to do.
Now the lines between these two are pretty blurry, and it doesn't really matter under which title an act may go but they are both important. People have to figure out what it is that they are most passionate about to know what they are going to be active with. There is so much that I love, there is so much I know needs help, but there is only so much I can volunteer my time to, and I have to rely on others to fill the voids which I cannot. For example, I tend to be an advocate for...

Summer so far

So this has been a pretty good summer so far. I have two part time jobs. I was hoping to be able to save money for when I study abroad in Florence starting in February, but neither of the jobs give me very many hours so this is a little difficult. But I have been pretty active physically. I have been biking and practicing yoga. I am enjoying both tremendously. I have also been trying to do a lot of artistic stuff in my free time. I made my first vector portrait yesterday (which I've been afraid of for a while). I also drew a flower recently. I will dev it soon. I am trying to do a lot of art this summer with more focus on the non-digital. We'll see how it goes! I'll dev the drawing and portrait soon!

Gallatin Arts Festvial- New World/New Works

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 31, 2009, 8:30 PM
This journal is devoted to the Gallatin Arts Festival so I wanted to change the layout up a bit (it also helps things fit a little better). So welcome! to the *Death-By-Romance's version of the Gallatin Art's Festival. As promised I will be deviating my work from my book and the other pictures that I took during the process during this week and maybe the next. Here is the big journal for it!

Watch the commercial for the Gallatin Arts Festival!

So tonight, Tuesday, March 31, 2009, was the Opening of the Gallatin Arts Festival. I presented my first real photo exhibit. There was a great turn out of people. I got some great compliments from many people. *mode-de-vie came and saw it. At one point I said to her, "This feels like dA in real life!" It was fun. Many people asked how I made my book, how much of the book I made, stuff like that. Most of the models came which was exciting. They all loved it. I got so much support and great words from my queer friends. It made me feel good. But here are some shots of it. I've also deviated my book in a way. So check everything out!-Steven

I'm home!

I am back home in New York City! Yay!:) I came back during my spring break early for work. Boo! I went grocery shopping when I went home. Mainly brought back frozen stuff, but realized when I got in my room that I had 4 GALLONS of apple juice! It's a little ridiculous. But I love apple juice so it's cool. I can go through a gallon in a day accidentally. It's pretty funny. That's that little news.

My Book!

I got my book Stories in the mail! I am very happy with how the book came out. I think I might have messed up one of the settings because I thought the pages were going to be glossy, but considering it is going to be in public place, it might be better that the pages aren't glossy... That's all of that news...

Emotes

This is the most amount of emoticons I've ever used in a journal. That's all. :|

Future Pictures

I might have another another photo project to work on starting soon one the Yoruba orisha (deity) named Obatala. :floating: I am not sure how I am going to do it yet though. We'll see. Speaking of photo projects. I am going to try to sort of recreate my portion of the the Gallatin Arts Festival for you guys here on my site, so during the next two weeks I'll be devving a lot of the pictures I've been telling you about but you haven't been seeing. Promise!:dygel:

New Features

I am thinking about doing a monthly feature, of some of the best/most interesting things from my inbox. The only problem with that is, it would be the same people over and over, unless I keep adding new friends every week. But then again, that's kind of cool. "Hey here's what my friends are doing." I think that's what I'm going to do, near the end of each month. (this is really just a way to make sure I'm seeing everything in my inbox and keeping it clean).

Contests

I have decided to make a new section of my journal which will be a permanent section from now on. It will be for the different contests that I am hosting personally, I support some how (judging, donating a prize to), or that I find interesting and think you guys should hear about. Also you will find the Hall of fame of Contests that I have hosted. The winners of each contest will go into this Hall of Fame. So here it goes.

Production Week!

I have seen three different productions this week, and I enjoyed them all.
On Tuesday, the 10th I saw Billy Elliot the Musical at the Imperial Theatre on 45th Street. When I went and saw it Kiril Kulish played Billy and I thought he was absolutely fantastic! I really enjoyed the story. It was very similar to a lot of things in my life which made it kind of sad. And I very easily let myself take the place of the main character, so it was sort of sad to see it, but it was a great productions. I was absolutely amazing and inspired by how well he could dance.

On Wednesday I saw one of my friends who lived on my floor last year in a production at her school within NYU. She was one of the four actors in the show. She did an absolutely phenomenal job. I am so very proud of her. The show was called Recent Tragic Events, taking place on 9/12/2001.

Friday night and last night I saw Hello, Dolly at my high school. There were different casts on these different nights. It was so exciting to see some of the people who were freshman when I left high school, with lead parts in the plays, their acting and sing skills exponentially improved. It was so much fun. I realized that it was a first time I'd ever seen a production at the school from the audience because I was either acting in it or in the pit band for it. It was great fun!

My Photo Book!!!

I am so very excited to announce that I have completed my first ever photo book, which as you guys who frequent my journal know is called Stories. I have been working on it for about a month now. The book features seven queer people, including myself: their portraits and their story. Each persons little story includes when they realized they were queer, how they came out, and also where the think the future of queers in society is going. In the book there are 105 photographs (41 in color), on 20 pages. I completely designed the book from cover to cover. It is hard cover an printed on pearl paper.

This book will be on display starting next week for two weeks as part of the Gallatin Arts Festival. Above the book will be four portraits of people who are in the book as well.

I am really excited for the festival and the book and prints. This is the first time I'm getting digital prints as well I am trust Mpix with my prints and book. I bought frames the other day at Michael's. This is going to be great! If you're in New York within the next two weeks, (especially if it's between March 30-April 3) and Would like to stop by to see my work just tell me!-Steven
